Jump In!
Auction Dinner
Sunday, May 18, 2014
At the Blue Goose in
Loomis
Tickets: $40 available in
the Del Oro office or the Loomis Chamber
or call Grace Kamphefner
at 916-765-0086!
Five years ago, the campaign
to raise money for a new pool started with the Del Oro Senior Project of Liz
Scherer. Liz organized an auction dinner that raised over $10,000, the most
money a senior project has ever raised. As we drive towards the finish line of
breaking ground on Phase I this summer, we are coming full circle. Please join
us for a fun-filled evening of delicious food and good friends as we celebrate
all that we have accomplished. We have less than $150,000 left to raise out of
a $2.65 million budget for Phase I! (This event will replace our usual Casino
Night spring fundraiser.) Cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres begin at 5:30. We
will raffle off 6 bottles of wine during the first hour that you can save for
later or share with your table at dinner! Tri tip and vegetarian pasta dinner
begins at 6:30. Catering by Café Zorro.
Reserve a sponsored table! Gold table sponsorship includes reserved
table for 10, and open bar for $1,000. Silver table sponsorship includes
reserved table for 8, and two complimentary premium bottles of wine for $800.
Call up your friends, split the cost, and get the best seats in the house!
We need help
too! Please consider donating a silent or live auction
item. A week at your vacation home? Gift cards, wine, movie or theater tickets,
spa certificates, swim gear… all items large or small are so appreciated.
Attached are the solicitation letter and donation form with tax ID. Next time
you dine out, ask the manager for a donation!
We Accept
Stock Donations!
A huge THANK YOU to
our December donors, including the Oien-Wilson family who donated 1,000 shares
of Intel stock (valued at over $25,000). Donating your long-term appreciated public or private
securities into the PUHSD Charles Schwab Brokerage Account on behalf of the Del
Oro Aquatic Center (rather than selling first and then donating after-tax
proceeds) has a number of benefits:
- The donor pays no capital gains
tax on the shares, so the Aquatic Center will receive a donation that can
be as much as 20% larger.
- The donor may take a charitable
deduction of the full fair market value of the donated securities, up to
30% of adjusted gross income. Amounts in excess of this 30% can be carried
forward for up to five years.
If you are in the same
fortunate situation, a stock transfer processed and received by the PUHSD prior
to December 31, 2014 may be deductible on your 2014 tax return. If interested
in making this type of stock transfer, please contact Doug Marquand, Assistant
Superintendent at 530-886-4410.

PHASE I UPDATE
Plans for Phase I have been approved by the State Board of
Architects (DSA)! Attached are images of the current site plan and
architectural renderings of what it will look like. The capital campaign is
only two years old and we are coming down the home stretch towards our goal of
breaking ground! By current accounting, we expect to have over $2.4 million committed
to start construction by early December or before. That includes the “million
dollar match,” the contribution from the Town of Loomis, and a significant
corporate pledge. By prior estimates, this should have been enough to break
ground. However, due to additional accessibility requirements from DSA, we are
still about $250,000 short of our goal. What does that mean? It means:
1. We will not be breaking ground until after the Del Oro
water polo season.
2. We still need donations. We are asking everyone to
donate what they can, and ask at least 5 friends to do the same.
4. We are sharpening our pencils and cutting costs to meet
an achievable budget.
5. We are looking for “in kind” donations, especially for
fencing, concrete, and grading.
6. Our goal is within reach, but we need everyone to
pull together in the next few months to make it happen. Please send in your
donation (PayPal is available on our website: www.deloroaquaticcenter.com)
or let us know how you can help TODAY! Contact us at friendsofthedopool@gmail.com.

How Close Are We?

ground. However, due to additional accessibility requirements from the state
board of architects that must approve all construction projects on campus, we
are still about $250,000 short of our goal. What does that mean? It means:

Calling All LBD Alumni!
This Saturday, July 20, will be the last dual meet of the
Loomis Basin Dolphins season before Champs. More significantly, it will be the last
home meet in the old pool! We are calling alumni swimmers and parents to
come cheer on our swimmers as they race against Park Terrace, and join in the
special festivities including a 50/50 raffle, a Pool Jam sale, and fun relays
during and at the end of the meet. We will have donation forms available if you
still haven’t purchased your brick or tile for the new pool. See you on deck!
Basketball Tournament!
Greg and Stephanie Hoffman are hosting their fourth annual
basketball tournament fundraiser on Sunday, August 18 from 8:30 am to 7:00
pm. This year it will benefit the new pool fund! A minimum donation of $25
provides you with a tax deductible donation & a day full of food, drinks,
music, swimming, and great memories. You are welcome to drop by or spend
a few hours. Due to liability concerns we respectfully require Adults
Only for this event. Games will be running from approximately 8:30 am-6
pm so stop by anytime. Checks can be made out to: PUHSD/Del Oro Aquatic
Center. Please RSVP by 8/14 to Greg so we can plan food and beverage
accordingly: 916-275-0783. The Hoffman home is located at 2850 Taylor Rd,
Loomis.
Thank You!
A big THANK YOU to Tony Toohey and Magnussen’s Auburn Toyota

Toyota Corporation. If you are considering a new car purchase in the near
future, please consider buying a Toyota from Tony!

Breaking Ground?
While we HOPE to break ground by the end of this
summer, we are NOT done fundraising. We need everyone to pitch in to
help us reach this goal. While we have large PLEDGES committed, we need a
certain amount of cash in the bank before we can call in the bulldozers. Please
support our summer fundraisers and purchase your tile, brick, paver, or lane
NOW! Every fundraiser is critical to our success in achieving this goal. The
more we raise, the more we can build. Please complete the attached donation
form and mail your tax deductible contribution today!
