June Update

The Water Is Rising!
If you haven’t noticed already, the pool thermometer sign by Loomis Raleys has been updated again to reflect a total of $250,000 raised for the new aquatic center! Thanks to a steady stream of fundraisers: Pennies for the Pool, The 24-Hour Swim A Thon, Casino Night, and the Golf Tournament, along with continued donations to the capital campaign, we have achieved this major milestone. Please use the attached form to make a donation today and help us to our next goal of $500,000. Naming opportunities start as low as $150, and every dollar will be matched by our million dollar matching grant.

Win a Vacation In Puerto Vallarta!
Pizza Factory in Loomis is celebrating their 25th anniversary the last weekend of June! In conjunction with this celebration, the owners, Maren and Eric Lombardi, have generously decided to sponsor a raffle to benefit the new pool. The prize is a week in their beautiful condo in Puerto Vallarta which sleeps 4, valued at $700 (check it out at www.castillobadillo.com). Airfare is not included. Tickets are only $10 apiece or $50 for 6 tickets. The drawing will happen Sunday, July 29, right after Suburban Swim League Champs when the Dolphins traditionally head over to Pizza Factory to celebrate. Pizza Factory has been a Dolphin sponsor for many years. We are grateful to their continued support of our team and the Del Oro Pool. To purchase tickets, you can go to Pizza Factory or contact us at friendsofthedopool@gmail.com.

May Update

24 HOUR SWIM A THON
Who in their right mind would swim for 24 hours? That’s what LBD Head Coach, Heidi Walker’s trainer, Jack Powless, thought when she asked him to help her get in shape for this unusual feat. While Heidi was already in great shape from competing in local triathalons, she only had 6 weeks to prepare both mentally and physically for her marathon in the Del Oro pool. Heidi started swimming at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 21 and finished at 8 a.m. the next day. She swam 2,039 laps, which equates to 50,975 yards or 28.55 miles! Thank you to all the swimmers who jumped in with Heidi to keep her going both day and night and who brought in pledges that made the 24-Hour Swim A Thon a success! Thanks also go to our amazing Junior Council that helped to organize and run the event AND swim! We netted over $16,000 and earned media attention from Good Day Sacramento, Fox 40, and Wave Broadband. Stay tuned for the video that is being produced and will hopefully gain nationwide attention for our cause. Special thanks to our generous sponsors: Nationwide Insurance, Golden Eagle Automotive, Von Housen Mercedes Benz, Eastbay Athletic Wear, d&D Logowear, West Coast Swim Shop, Pasta Pomodoro, Loomis Starbucks, Cater Galante Orthodontists, and 4 GR8 Tee’s.

CASINO NIGHT
The second annual Casino Night was held Friday, May 4. New additions included a silent auction and a wine bottle ring toss. While the official results are still being tabulated, it looks like the event earned between $15,000 and $16,000. A HUGE thank you to the Casino Night co-chairs, Lindi Callahan and Margie Mower, and the whole hard working committee! Special thanks to our event sponsors: Nationwide Insurance, Loomis Basin Dolphins, Johnson & Co., CPAs Frank M. Booth Design Build,The Baker Family, Shelley’s Smart Shopper, TSD Engineering, DPR Construction, KSJ Electrical Construction, Sacramento Truck Center, Golden State Tree Care, Magnussen's Auburn Toyota, Loomis Chiropractic, Michael Hardy, CFP/UBS Financial Services, and The Oien-Wilson Family. Thank you also to our many auction and raffle donors, and food and beverage sponsors.
LARGE DONATIONS
Last fall, Tony Toohey of Magnussen’s Auburn Toyota donated $10,000 which was matched twice—by both Toyota and the Sacramento New Car Dealers Association—for a total donation of $30,000. Well, Tony has done it again! With the same matches, the pool fund just went up another $25,000. If you are thinking of buying a new car, please give Tony at call toll free at (888) 730-8694.
