May Update

24 HOUR SWIM A THON
Who in their right mind would swim for 24 hours? That’s what LBD Head Coach, Heidi Walker’s trainer, Jack Powless, thought when she asked him to help her get in shape for this unusual feat. While Heidi was already in great shape from competing in local triathalons, she only had 6 weeks to prepare both mentally and physically for her marathon in the Del Oro pool. Heidi started swimming at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 21 and finished at 8 a.m. the next day. She swam 2,039 laps, which equates to 50,975 yards or 28.55 miles! Thank you to all the swimmers who jumped in with Heidi to keep her going both day and night and who brought in pledges that made the 24-Hour Swim A Thon a success! Thanks also go to our amazing Junior Council that helped to organize and run the event AND swim! We netted over $16,000 and earned media attention from Good Day Sacramento, Fox 40, and Wave Broadband. Stay tuned for the video that is being produced and will hopefully gain nationwide attention for our cause. Special thanks to our generous sponsors: Nationwide Insurance, Golden Eagle Automotive, Von Housen Mercedes Benz, Eastbay Athletic Wear, d&D Logowear, West Coast Swim Shop, Pasta Pomodoro, Loomis Starbucks, Cater Galante Orthodontists, and 4 GR8 Tee’s.

CASINO NIGHT
The second annual Casino Night was held Friday, May 4. New additions included a silent auction and a wine bottle ring toss. While the official results are still being tabulated, it looks like the event earned between $15,000 and $16,000. A HUGE thank you to the Casino Night co-chairs, Lindi Callahan and Margie Mower, and the whole hard working committee!
